Everything Floats

Nobody Is Gonna Rain On This Parade

Who doesn’t love a parade?  Whether it is the extravagance and detail of Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade, the quaint local flavor of the La Habra Club Corn Festival Parade, or the spectacular showmanship of West Hollywood’s Pride Parade, parades seek to unite and excite families, friends, and communities.  The streets are closed to traffic.  The cart at the corner sells cotton candy and popcorn.  The marching bands play and serenade the crowds.  The movie stars and local celebrities wave from an open convertible.  But, the biggest stars of any parade are the larger-than-life floats.  What those in-awe onlookers do not realize is that these beautiful and moveable works of art are in fact monstrous machines that require designing, engineering, welding, sculpting, and decorating, as well a lot of strength, stress, and sweat.  There is nothing pretty about building pretty floats.
